Cavediving in Norway....
Most
cave systems in Norway are quite small compared to systems in other
parts of the world. The caves are dark and cold, so they can be great
fun ...
The
cave systems which have been discovered are mostly in the northern part
of the country, which means we have a 1000 km drive to get to them .
....caves in the rest of the world.
Mexico
In
the Mayan language… a cave entrance is called a “cenote”, and there
are hundreds of them all over the Yucatan peninsula, in Mexico. In the
Quintana Roo, also called the Mexican caribbean you will find “the cave
country” with miles of exotic white sandy beaches facing the Caribbean
ocean, and a jungle full of cenotes with visibility of a 100 meters
plus.
Before the Mayans, and the Aztecs…. this peninsula was at one time a
coral reef. When the ice edge struck, the ocean level sank , and the
reef became a rocklike sponge. Rainwater flowed through forming
underground rivers decorated with stalactites formed from the dripping
water. When the ice melted, the ocean level rose a few meters and the
beautiful caves which had been formed filled up with seawater.
The
Mayan people used some of the cenotes as offering places, and they even
had their own god for what they called the underworld.
You will find a short video from
the caves here 60 Mb.

Our trips to Mexico
November 2005 was also a success thanks to Robbie at
Xibalba dive center in Tulum. They provided us with great, dependable tips
and guiding.
Diving Azteka, which has become one of my favorites, is always very
enjoyable. We also had the chance to dive Sistema Cammilio which was
then recently explored, and unspoiled compared to the other cenotes in the
Tulum area.
We where inside the cave Thai Mahal when It collapsed in one of the
cenotes. Because of this we had to turn and swim back insted of doing a
circle. |
